There are statutory rules surrounding the payment of wages to employees. Employers are not entitled to deduct wages if to do so would be contrary to these rules. In addition, employers must show clearly how deductions to your wages have been made.
Unsurprisingly, disagreement about wages and unlawful deductions is the most common cause for complaint amongst employees.
If you have concerns about your pay or believe unlawful deductions have been made from your wages, you should approach your employer in the first instance to discuss these concerns. You are entitled to request information from your employer on how they have calculated your wages and any deductions. If you are not satisfied with your employer's response, you may then wish to seek legal advice.
